Yes. That is a police car. Day 55. 0 miles. We needed a day to dry gear and wash and dry clothes. Started our day at the gas station for coffee while Lois slept in. We met a man at the coffee line with a gun. He was nice but Jon and Lois are not used to guns being accessible. We had breakfast in our room and then went to the laundromat. I think we were all naked under our rain pants/jackets while we washed and dried everything. Jon rode over to the ranger station, which was closed, but met a man in the parking lot, with a gun, who said he would come to our hotel and review our maps and the muddy roads with us as we are considering taking the alternate route tomorrow. Turns out we had met the chief of police, Dave, in the coffee shop and now he was helping us with route planning. He said the roads would be too muddy and gave us some tips on safety as we near the border. Lois and John seem to attract law enforcement. Hmmmm. We shopped for food and spent the day cleaning the bikes and repacking. Why does it take so long to repack so little stuff??! Tara met her cousin for lunch. I grazed all day and tried hard not to eat all the Oreos……tomorrow we head to the town of Grants, 2 days away. Tomorrow night we are going to sleep behind the gas station behind a locked fence. That should be interesting. The next night we will stay at a hostel in Grants.

Super happy for you guys on this journey! Today, encountering cows on a gravel ride I couldn't help but think of you when you had those cows on the road in front of you! I told my friend Karen all about your cycling adventure from Alberta to NM.
