Day 52. 59.9 miles. We had breakfast at the hotel-cold cereal and English muffins. And Dingdongs that were six months outdated. Jon ate one yesterday and is still alive so I ate one today. We decided to take the road from Chama to Abiquiu today due to our fear and the stories of the mud. We experienced a significant change in scenery today. From the high mountains with Aspens and ponderosa pines to drier desert and high red sand stone bluffs. Today we took turns being in the front of the line, pulling and breaking the wind to make it easier for those in the back. We had just a little wind and the road was rolling. We stopped at a crazy gas/station bar for ice cream (see the photo of the $1 bills!) and then Stopped for lunch at Echo amphitheater. A spectacular natural carved canyon that shows the sedimentation layers of thousands of years. We also Passed Ghost Ranch before the last 12 miles into Abiquiu. We passed the camping area (retreat on the river, on the Rio Chama) to go to town and get coffee, ice creams, and groceries and then rode back. Interesting spot to stay, with a few small buildings, tent area, little communal kitchen and outdoor shower. There was also a deck over the river. We made our dinner and ate on the deck. Had tea before bed. We are going back on the trail tomorrow for the steepest section yet. 2 days to Cuba, our next resupply.

Fabulous pictures Jen, what an amazing time you are all having. Some days I feel your pain but mostly I am so envious. Have fun 🤩
