We have arrived in Banff and the scenery is spectacular. Getting here was a challenge. Two weeks before departure our flight from Toronto to Calgary was canceled so we had to rebook. When our flights were rebooked Mimi and I were on separate flights leaving Boston now routing through Minneapolis. Our new flights were delayed and Mimi decided to rebook to my departure flight from Boston. Our flight was delayed……. and we missed our connection. After a night in Minneapolis, we were rebooked to fly to Portland Oregon and then back to Calgary. Talk about carbon footprint! However, the scenery flying was dramatic with views of Mount Saint Helens, Mount Hood, and Rainier. Customs was quick but our gear bags were heavy. We are already talking about what we’re going to leave behind and send home with Tara‘s husband Larry. From Calgary to Banff is about about 90 minutes by car. After two long travel days, we thought we would save an hour and pay an extra $10 each to take an Uber rather than a bus. Once the Uber driver picked us up we had to stop to charge his electric vehicle which took another 30 minutes. That’s karma to compensate for our carbon emissions. We happily arrived in Banff at our Airbnb with Tara and Larry already in residence. They had a delicious dinner all prepared and we spent the evening walking around town. Tomorrow we pick up our bikes, pack them , and test ride them. We are preparing for departure on Wednesday if we can be ready, given our delay. We are also hoping to see Lake Louise if we can fit it in. The weather is beautiful!
